South Dakota State University: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Practice of Advertising
The School of Communication and Journalism (COJO) at South Dakota State University (SDSU) invites applications for an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of Practice of Advertising to begin no later than August 2023. They seek a distinguished practitioner in the field of advertising creative design with the ability to provide dynamic and engaging instruction to undergraduate students in our ACEJMC-accredited advertising program. The ideal candidate will enhance their culture of excellence through collegiality, innovation, and collaboration. On-campus teaching responsibilities may include but are not limited to advertising principles, advertising design and copy, advertising research and planning, and integrated marketing communications and campaigns. The successful candidate will contribute to curriculum development, foster and further develop industry relationships locally and nationally, assist with programmatic assessment, and advise student clubs or organizations. The position focuses on teaching and preparing students for professional practice. This is a nine-month, full-time, on-campus, benefit-eligible position and reports to the Director of the School of Communication and Journalism.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach on-campus and online undergraduate courses (i.e., advertising principles, advertising design and copy, advertising research and planning, integrated marketing communications and campaigns, and other courses related to specialization).
Provide discipline-related service to the School, College, and University as well as local, regional, and national-level service, given the land grant mission of SDSU.
Foster and further develop industry relationships locally and nationally.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in advertising, strategic communication, or a closely related field completed by the first day of employment.
Potential for success in teaching at a college or university.
Distinguished record of accomplishment as a leader in the field of advertising creative design.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud applications germane to advertising creative design.
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and across differences.
Excellent written communication skills.
Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Sponsorship is not available for this position. Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience teaching at a college or university.
Evidence of professional experience applying creative production capabilities in visual communication applicable to advertising.
Experience and knowledge in mentoring undergraduate students in formal ways, such as through the National Student Advertising Competition or a student-run advertising, public relations, or creative agency.
Experience in developing industry collaborations and creating professional development opportunities for undergraduate students.
Demonstrated knowledge and evidence of application of domestic and global diversity concepts germane to advertising and strategic communications.
Ph.D. in advertising, strategic communication, or a closely related field.
