AAF South Dakota: Part Time Executive Director

American Advertising Federation – South Dakota is looking for a highly skilled executive director to help us fulfill our mission and vision. Reporting to the board of directors, the executive director will oversee the strategic and operational efficiencies of our programs. This leader will have an  organized, positive, enthusiastic attitude as required as well as a willingness to assist a working board of directors. This position will not only understand current trends in the marketing and advertising industry but will also have experience in developing and implementing a successful fundraising plan. Relationships with local community groups is a plus. Above all, the executive director should be highly effective in a leadership role that requires clear communication skills and decisiveness.

Objectives of this role

  • Assist and work closely with board directors and committees to assess and address issues affecting the organization

  • Oversee daily operations of the organization, providing executive direction for program strategies and efficiencies

  • Identify and address board and volunteer requirements for efficient operations, and maintain a strong work culture that attracts and retains members while driving the organization’s mission

  • Increase awareness of the organization by being the main spokesperson and liaison with local media

  • Represent the club at community activities to enhance the organization's community profile

  • Develop an actionable plan for fundraising and managing monthly cash flow with our accounting firm

  • Comply with all national and local regulations

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the face of the organization while being the main point of contact for AAF-SD fielding questions from the board of directors, membership, potential members, businesses and media outlets

  • Maintain strong and positive relationships with members by attending member events and one on one meetings

  • Set and attend quarterly Executive Team meetings

  • Set and attend monthly meetings with individual committees

  • Financial planning and management

    • Work with staff and the Board to prepare a comprehensive budget

    • Research funding sources, oversee the development of fundraising plans and write funding proposals to increase the funds of the organization

    • Administer the funds of the club according to the approved budget 

    • Monitor the monthly cash flow

    •  Provide the Board with comprehensive, regular reports on the revenues and expenditures

  • Secure annual and event sponsors to achieve budget goals

  • Attend all AAF-SD events and support board members in the planning and execution of events

  • Oversee all external communications, including website, marketing collateral, and social media

  • Local and state lobbying for the betterment of the advertising industry and our members

  • Prepare financial reports and agenda for board meetings

  • Adhere to national and district level AAF rules.  Participate in regularly scheduled meetings 

  • Assist the board to strategize and implement new and exciting ways to elevate our club

Required skills and qualifications

  • Strong experience in public relations, marketing, and fundraising

  • Knowledge of leadership and management principles for nonprofit organizations

  • Proven success working with a board of directors

  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with innovative approach to business planning

  • Dynamic and charismatic team player who enjoys being the public face of an organization

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in business, human resources, or marketing communications

  • Experience in managing budgets

  • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills
